We
are a family of cat lovers and began our
search for a new kitten in 2006 after
our eldest daughter moved out with the
family cat in tow. After researching
different cat breeds, as well as
visiting breeder homes, we discovered
Birmans and fell in love with them. The
modern and legendary history of this
wonderful breed is shrouded in mystery,
and was once called the “Sacred Cat of
Burma”.

The Birman is a semi long haired,
average sized color point cat with silky
rabbit like fur, gentle temperament and
beautiful blue eyes. The combination of
light body, color points and four white
paws (gloves and laces) gives a striking
contrast. We wanted a cat that required
minimal grooming, was playful, and
people oriented. We found it all in the
Birman.

Soon after buying our first Birman, my
daughter and I became interested in
showing and breeding as a hobby. A
longstanding fascination with genetics
from my nursing background came to life,
as I considered all the Birman color
possibilities and pattern variations.

Our cattery is registered with TICA (The
International Cat Association). We
believe that participation in cat shows
is an important responsibility as a
breeder. Having our cats evaluated by
different judges ensures that we are
breeding according to TICA Birman
standard, and validates our breeding
program. Not all cats like to be shown,
so not all will receive titles. We
believe, however, that at least one
parent of a pedigreed kitten should have
a title.

In keeping with Birman tradition,
kittens are named by the letter of the
alphabet that falls on their year of
birth.
Dior and DK from Extravagante Birmans,
became part of our family in 2006, a “D”
year. Their names were chosen in
accordance with our designer theme –
hence the name BIRSACE BIRMANS. To us,
it epitomized the beauty and elegance of
this wonderful breed.

“Kipper”, our handsome lilac lynx point
boy, was also born in mid 2006 and came
to us from Zanadu Birmans. He was
prenamed “Discombobulated” which means
“frustrated”. True to his name, Kipper
let us know he was frustrated with the
show scene by the time he turned a year
old. So, he retired early from shows as
a TICA Double Grand Champion, and has
turned his attention to romancing the
ladies.

We wish to remain small, and our Birmans
live in the midst of our family. They
are strictly indoor cats and receive an
abundance of love and attention in a
cage free environment. Our primary goal
is to raise healthy, well socialized
pets who will become wonderful
companions. In addition to good
temperament, we are working toward
breeding for deep blue eye color and
light body coat. Our preference is lilac
and chocolate (dilute colors) as they
tend to have lighter coats as they age
than blue and seal (traditional colors).
We are currently breeding blue Birmans with colorpoint,
lynx pattern, but soon plan
to integrate seal as well.
