Welcome to Birsace Birmans

 November 6, 2011

Two Five month old male Birman kittens available together - contact Extravagante Birmans for details - 403 235 5875

ALSO

Birsace Heaven Sent and Hallelujah (will be two years in February 2012) are retired moms available for adoption together. These two litter sisters are very special to us and I would like them to live together with a family in Calgary where they are the only pets and there are no children. Heaven is not happy sharing our home with Divo and Skye, so would be better off as Alpha Cat with her sister Hallie. See Birman Family page for photos of these beautiful girls.  Call 403 242 0723.

About Us

We are a family of cat lovers who embarked on a new kitten search in 2006 after our eldest daughter moved out with the family cat in tow. After an extensive search of different cat breeds, we discovered and fell in love with Birmans. Soon after adopting our first Birman, I became very interested in breeding, which I had never considered before in the midst of raising daughters. As a registered nurse with a longstanding fascination with genetics, I have spent countless hours researching the Birman breed and attending cat shows to determine the traits, colors and attributes we want to focus on in our breeding program. It has been a very fulfilling hobby.

Birmans are strikingly beautiful, intelligent, gentle and playful cats who like to be around people. They have a silky, semi-long haired coat that has no undercoat so requires minimal grooming. Originally called the “Sacred Cat of Burma", the origin of the Birman breed dates back centuries in France. Birman integration into the western world is almost as shrouded in mystery as the legendary history.

BIRSACE BIRMANS designer theme epitomizes the beauty and elegance of this wonderful breed.  Following a tradition amongst Birman breeders, the names of our kittens begin with the letter of the alphabet that has become associated with their year of birth. Birsace breeding queens born in 2010, an "H" year, were named Heaven Sent and Hallelujah. Two of their offspring who are staying with us, were born in 2011 so have names beginning with the letter "I" - Il Divo and Isle of Skye.  We look forward to lovely kittens from Divo and Skye in the spring of 2012 when they are bred to outcrossed Birman lines.

SHOW AND BREEDING PHILOSOPHY

Birsace Birmans is a very small TICA registered hobby cattery; our cats live as part of our family and are never caged. Our primary goal is to raise healthy, well socialized pets of good temperament who will become delightful and loyal companions.
Another very important goal for us is to improve the Birman breed through increased genetic diversity and careful selection of the qualities we believe to be most desirable.  Importing and breeding our cats to Birmans with unrelated pedigrees has helped us attain this.
It has been both our preference and practice to retire our Birmans from breeding prior to their 3rd birthday, once they have replaced themselves in our breeding program.

We believe an important responsibility for a breeder is to participate in cat shows. Having our Birmans evaluated by different judges ensures that we are breeding according to TICA standard and validates our breeding program. Not all cats like to be shown, however, and we respect that. Fendi (in photo at left  being awarded a Best Cat Final from judge Connie Webb) showed off his Birman Huff in disdain for cat shows, so retired at 8 months of age from the show circuit as a TICA Champion.
